It’s Memorial Day weekend and that means it’s the official kickoff of summer! And what better way to celebrate some long, lazy summer days than with a refreshing, boozy Bourbon Peach Tea Cocktail? Bonus: it’s low carb so you can enjoy it guilt-free! And did I mention it takes less than 10 minutes to make?
Bourbon Peach Tea Cocktail Recipe
Bourbon and peaches are a great combination, but when you’re eating a low carb diet, you have to keep your consumption of fresh peaches low. But this cocktail gives a punch of peach flavor without the carbs by using peach tea.
You’ll start out by brewing some peach tea. I like this one by Pure Leaf. Four bags of tea to three cups boiling water.
When your tea is done brewing, add to it 4-6 tablespoons of powdered low carb sweetener and 1/2 a cup of lemon juice.
A note on sweeteners:
I personally like the flavor Sukrin best— it’s a blend of erythritol and stevia. I hate the aftertaste of stevia on its own, and find the cooling effect of erythritol to be really off-putting. However, it seems that combining these two cancels out both of these unpleasant effects.
I have always been very sensitive to the flavor of alternative sweeteners so I thought I’d never really get on board with low-carb sweeteners because of that. I’ve previously used Allulose, which tastes the most like sugar, but it’s the most expensive option. So I’m glad to have found another alternative I like the flavor of.
Update: I now use my Low Carb Sweetener blend because it’s cheaper!
That being said, you can use whatever sweetener you’re comfortable with. And if you’re not eating a low-carb diet, you can use regular sugar, honey, or maple syrup as well. Maple is a great flavor addition to peach and bourbon. Just make sure that if you’re using a granulated sweetener, you stir it into the hot tea until completely dissolved.
Next you add the booze! One cup of bourbon. I like Maker’s Mark, but use your favorite. Of course you can leave the booze out if you prefer.
Once the bourbon is stirred in, pour the mixture over 4 cups of ice and serve.
I will say that this is one of those drinks that doesn’t taste as boozy as it is, so keep that in mind as you’re drinking! And also know that if you’re on a ketogenic diet, alcohol will hit you harder than it did when you were eating carbs. So drink responsibly, friends!
